Kids of Divorce, Holiday Parenting Schedules

It’s that time of year when  divorced parents have to either decide where the kids are spending the holidays or when they go to their Parenting Agreement to review the schedule that was prepared during their divorce.

When I’m sitting down with divorcing couples during divorce mediation, often times, parents struggle with how to split up the holidays with the kids. It causes not only much stress for them but also stress for the kids. Many times, old holiday traditions may be impossible to keep.  Parents want to know what would be best for the kids and the reality is that it differs for every child and every family.

Divorce is a stressful time and although you want your kids to suffer as little as possible, sometimes the pain of the change in their lives is just unavoidable.  I thought it would be helpful to create this video blog with Joanna Kleinman, LCSW of The Center for Extraordinary Relationships & the Co Creator of Dethroning Your Inner Critic and discuss different ways that you and your kids can get through this holiday period as smoothly as possible.

If you have had experience with this, please share your comments as they may help someone who may just be facing this dilemma for the first time.
